Halo: Reach Beta is online!

Halo Reach Beta

The Halo: Reach Beta has gone live today and all you need to access it is your Halo: ODST Campaign disc.
Note, the experience will not be flawless as the servers experienced flooding earlier today.
I am also witness to the pain experienced by a server rollback in which unlocked equipment and gained ranks were lost, so don’t get too attached to your glorified pixels. ;D

Two maps are currently available, Sword Base and Powerhouse. Sword Base is a stacked maze that becomes much easier to maneuver with jet packs. I still don’t know my way around this map, but with that knowledge, you will be deadly. Powerhouse on the other hand, is a circular arena, with both open and enclosed buildings.
Much more newb friendly, and equipped with rockets.

There are a couple of different playlists to choose from. Arena will let you choose from Team Slayer variations and will be the most competitive of the playlists. By playing enough matches in the Arena, you will receive a Daily Rating. If you happen to receive enough Ratings, you will be put into a Division with similarly skilled players. This is where you’ll gain your bragging rights, if you end up being good enough.

I have personally been having fun with the Grab Bag playlist. This mash-up of game modes mixes it up with variety as CTF, Oddball, Team Crazy King, 3 Plots, Team Slayer, Team SWAT, Covy (Covenant) Team Slayer, and a new mode, Stockpile are included. With only two maps to play, I can’t say I’ve been bored yet, and the variety will only continue to increase as we see more maps.

Invasion mode is due to go live on Friday, May 7th, and if you haven’t already, read up to get in the know. This mode will involve the Spartans vs. Elites, three phases of combat, and vehicles. Hopefully, it will be as awesome as the hype makes it seem, and it’ll be refreshing to see a mode a little more involved than the norm.

Just remember, this is a BETA and shit will go wrong. Bungie apparently does not appreciate the whining on the forums:

“Once again, thanks for being patient. Unless of course you weren’t patient at all and you made like a million posts to the feedback forum to complain about the outage even though there were already like a million posts already made complaining about the outage. If you were that guy, thanks for nothing!”
