Haircut! –snip- | 07.22.2010

It’s pretty short and I’m digging it.
Blowdrying my hair is no longer a chore, nor is a straightener even necessary!
I could seriously get used to this.

PS: I’m still missing one god damn thermos in Alan Wake.
PSS: I just started playing Forza Motorsport 3.
And it’s more entertaining than I thought. :o

I lied… but here’s some pictures! | 07.09.2010

Dear Blog,
I lied to you.
I feel awful and ashamed.
Today someone messaged me on XBL telling me how bad of a person I was.
I already put these on x360a but just because you get sloppy seconds does not mean I love you less.
I promise.

Always,
Eksy

It’s been a while. | 07.05.2010

Dear Blog,
Tomorrow you will be updated.
Hiking adventures and my play-through Alan Wake.
Which was amazing.
Love, Eksy

My E3 adventure. (Part 1) | 06.18.2010

I never thought I would attend this event before I was in the industry developing games, but there I was.
Two weeks earlier I didn’t realize I even had a chance, but thanks to some amazing people, the opportunity was presented to me.
(And here I thought my summer wouldn’t be very eventful.)

Walking in, I was blown away by it alln -huge screens, crazy lighting, and giant logos proclaiming the presence of the many different developers and publishers I’ve come to know over the years. An artist whipped up art inspired by Epic Mickey for the growing crowd entranced by his speed and skill. I wish this game would be brought over to Xbox 360 and PS3 so players could experience the darkly beautiful world in HD. Just adjacent to this performance was the Ubisoft area featuring a private booth, as well as large area showing off their new fitness game that utilizes the X360’s Kinect called Your Shape. More exciting to me, however, was the display of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood which looked very slick. In this iteration, you have to blend in with the crowd, take out your target, then continue on going unnoticed which makes your role as an assassin feel more genuine.

Shortly after, I touched upon some consoles with Dead Rising 2 loaded up, and while it was entertaining, from the demo, nothing really blew me away. The Two Worlds II demo also seemed lacking, and I wasn’t thrilled with the combat. When executing, say a whirlwind attack, combat fragments. The camera shifts to a different angle, and while I guess this is to allow a up close and personal view of the havoc you’re wreaking, the cut away takes too long and makes for a sluggish experience. I hope they instill more fluidity into the system by the time it reaches launch.

My posse and I headed over to the Warner Bros. area and checked out the setup for Lego Harry Potter. There we saw an impressive construction of Harry Potter and the gang made entirely out of Legos. Poor Hagrid couldn’t fit into our group photo. :( There was also a station with various Lego character pieces to mix and match and take home as a souvenir.
I ended up with a frightened nurse lady and how that relates to Harry Potter, I don’t know, but it’s Legos! What’s cooler than that?

Apparently, the extremely crowded Nintendo floor. The lines for virtually everything there snaked around as everyone waited to get their hands on the 3DS and upcoming games such as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Kirby’s Epic Yarn. We hopped into the line for the 3DS hands on experience and luckily babes with the devices tethered to them, made their way down it to give us a look at basic demo. The first part of it showed videos of real life footage, such as ripple effects, a party popper, and a baby chick.
Yer, I thought the last one was strange, too.
The next part of the demo included all of our Nintendo characters and allowed camera movement with the analog stick. This is where the 3D shined. Link’s sword appeared pop to out of the screen and there was great depth to it all – as long as the 3DS was positioned correctly. Unfortunately, turning it askew even slightly made the effect disappear and to some a little sick. It was still much more impressive than I expected, and was much better in and to my eyes than the solution Sony delivered.

Everyone has seen from the products being pushed and developed that Sony is putting its all on the 3D bandwagon. Their area at E3 reflected this through the dozens of 3D capable TV’s and games ready for our testing. Steven and I stepped up to try it out and on our screen, a racing game (who’s name was not worth remembering) was loaded up. With the 3D glasses off, the image was bright with brilliant colors, but on the game went dark. The 3D effect was nothing incredible and made my eyes hurt more than anything. For some reason, I was able to sit through Avatar in 3D with no problems, but this was a nuisance.

My god, summing up my one afternoon there is taking much longer than expected.
Part 2 coming soon.

Summer is finally here + Alpha Protocol? | 06.16.2010

I won’t be taking an adventure to any sort of exotic land, but I am perfectly content with where I am. With no course work left to do, I can now breathe easy and focus on whatever it is I feel like.
At the moment, Jquery and Acheivement points!

I would love to redesign this blog as there are some weird flaws going on with it right now.
Plus I get bored easily.

I recently joined the forums over at x360a.com during my obsession over Red Dead Redemption. And yes, this is a big deal for I am a notorious forum lurker, not participator. I definitely recommend checking them out since there is a wealth of knowledge posted frequently.
Also, if you head over the “Games” forum, you’ll find a guide stickied at the top for easy 1000/1000 achievement point games. I haven’t tackled this list myself, but with Gamefly and free time, that could change.
Would you REALLY hate me for playing Disney’s Up?
You would?
[Sadface.]

Over the past day, I’ve also been playing Alpha Protocol and have also received numerous XBL messages asking about it.
Don’t spend your money on this one, or if you really must because despite the huge amount of awful reviews on this game, you are really just curious, don’t buy it at full price.
The best part of the game is during the dialogue where you must choose between three or four different response types such as aggressive, suave, professional, ect. and each has different effects depending on who you’re talking to. The general storyline is alright, but the characters need more substance. Besides that, the gameplay is riddled with glitches, and I don’t enjoy the stealth aspect of it at all.
It didn’t help that some glitches caused the NPCs to detect you through walls.
There were also times enemies would screw up and destroy himself and some buddies with grenades, so I suppose it kind of made up for the frustrations.
Luckly, since it is an “RPG” of sorts, you can develop your character to go guns blazing and quickly destroy all of the baddies, so you aren’t forced into being sneaky.
Bottom line is this game is not polished, though it had potential. If you were thinking about picking this game up, but haven’t played the Mass Effect series yet, do yourself a favor and grab those instead.

Alright lovelies, go enjoy the sun, or be neat like me and catch up on all the E3 news.
Eksy out!

Red Dead Redemption Sales: Week 1 | 06.01.2010

In its first week, Red Dead Redemption sold 871,685 units on 360 and 566,857 units on PS3 worldwide.
This chalks the total up to an incredible 1,438,542 between the two consoles.
Apparently, there were shortages of the PS3 version, but had this demand been met, this number could have been even higher.

Grats Rockstar for once again, coming out on top.
Hope you all are having fun with it – I sure am.
Over 90% complete.
I need to work on nabbing more bad guys. ;]

Red Dead Redemption – Stealing more lives since WoW. | 05.21.2010

Red Dead Redemption

Selling around 550,000 copies on it’s opening day alone, Read Dead Redemption is spreading through my Xbox friends list like wildfire.
I’m eager to see the numbers once the 1-week mark has come around.

[Time for bed.
Yay for microblogging.
P.S. Halo: Reach Beta offline.]

Halo: Reach Beta is online! | 05.03.2010

Halo Reach Beta

The Halo: Reach Beta has gone live today and all you need to access it is your Halo: ODST Campaign disc.
Note, the experience will not be flawless as the servers experienced flooding earlier today.
I am also witness to the pain experienced by a server rollback in which unlocked equipment and gained ranks were lost, so don’t get too attached to your glorified pixels. ;D

Two maps are currently available, Sword Base and Powerhouse. Sword Base is a stacked maze that becomes much easier to maneuver with jet packs. I still don’t know my way around this map, but with that knowledge, you will be deadly. Powerhouse on the other hand, is a circular arena, with both open and enclosed buildings.
Much more newb friendly, and equipped with rockets.

There are a couple of different playlists to choose from. Arena will let you choose from Team Slayer variations and will be the most competitive of the playlists. By playing enough matches in the Arena, you will receive a Daily Rating. If you happen to receive enough Ratings, you will be put into a Division with similarly skilled players. This is where you’ll gain your bragging rights, if you end up being good enough.

I have personally been having fun with the Grab Bag playlist. This mash-up of game modes mixes it up with variety as CTF, Oddball, Team Crazy King, 3 Plots, Team Slayer, Team SWAT, Covy (Covenant) Team Slayer, and a new mode, Stockpile are included. With only two maps to play, I can’t say I’ve been bored yet, and the variety will only continue to increase as we see more maps.

Invasion mode is due to go live on Friday, May 7th, and if you haven’t already, read up to get in the know. This mode will involve the Spartans vs. Elites, three phases of combat, and vehicles. Hopefully, it will be as awesome as the hype makes it seem, and it’ll be refreshing to see a mode a little more involved than the norm.

Just remember, this is a BETA and shit will go wrong. Bungie apparently does not appreciate the whining on the forums:

“Once again, thanks for being patient. Unless of course you weren’t patient at all and you made like a million posts to the feedback forum to complain about the outage even though there were already like a million posts already made complaining about the outage. If you were that guy, thanks for nothing!”

Splinter Cell: Conviction | Moving | 04.17.2010

As luck would have it, I am moving on the week of Splinter Cell: Conviction’s release.
:[
Instead of vegging out and pulling off some sexy executes, I have been organizing, packing, unloading, lifting, failing, and crushing my fingers.

Little by little, the floor is being uncovered and boxes are disappearing.
I won't be fully online until Wednesday, but I have access to our apartment ground's lounge which has wifi. [score]

Enough about that; let’s catch up on what people are saying about our Sam Fischer.

IGN gave this game an overall score of 9.3/10 and rating presentation, sound, and gameplay the highest at 9’s. Goldstein, did note that this game is much different than its predecessors and the stealth is all about speed and stalking your prey, rather than avoiding it.

Ubisoft is also providing fans with free DLC’s every Thursday with the first dropping on the 15th. To access it, go to ‘Extras’ on the main menu and you’ll find the MP7A1 Machine Pistol waiting for you.

Perhaps the ever popular Spies vs. Mercs mode will return for free!
Wishful thinking?

Xbox Live Update! – Bust out those flash drives. | 04.06.2010

As I booted up the Xbox this morning I was pleased to find our anticipated updating arriving right on time.
As posted previously, this update allows the use of flash drives as portable storage!
It also makes a few adjustments to make the user interface for managing files a bit more user friendly.
